On September 3rd, at the Department of Agriculture of the University of Naples Federico II, IT4LIA AI Factory took part in Synergy Days Italia 2026, Italy’s first event bringing together businesses, research and innovation to accelerate the digitalization of the agrifood sector. In addition to a dedicated booth, IT4LIA ran a workshop designed to show, through concrete examples, how artificial intelligence can serve agrifood businesses.
The workshop, “IT4LIA AI Factory meets companies”, was designed and delivered by the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) with the aim of presenting, in a practical way, the Agritech and Agrifood services offered by IT4LIA AI Factory. The session opened with Matteo Angelinelli (CINECA), who gave an overview of IT4LIA AI Factory and its mission in support of the innovation ecosystem. He was followed by Fabio Antonelli (Bruno Kessler Foundation), who went into more detail on the services dedicated to the agrifood sector.
At the heart of the workshop were three thematic sessions, each built around a concrete use case presented by a guest company, followed by an interactive discussion with the audience via Mentimeter.
In the first session, dedicated to Smart Irrigation, Giulia Gulminelli of VAIMEE presented an innovative approach to irrigation management based on a digital twin that does not require physical sensors in the field, opening the floor to a discussion with participants on the benefits and limitations of this type of solution.
The second session explored applications of computer vision in agrifood: Daniele Tomasicchio of Agrorobotica described how artificial intelligence can support the monitoring of harmful insects, outlining the real challenges involved — from data availability to model choice and the infrastructure needed to bring this kind of solution from the lab into the field.
The third session addressed automation and robotics for agrifood: Andrea Parmeggiani and Giacomo Piccinini of Fondazione REI showed how on-edge data, the ISOBUS standard and computer vision systems are integrated into agricultural robotics, offering a concrete perspective on how AI is already entering field operations.
Each session closed with an interactive moment that allowed participants to share impressions and questions in real time, turning the workshop into a genuine space for dialogue between research, technology and business.
The initiative confirms IT4LIA AI Factory’s commitment to building a direct bridge between AI infrastructure and services and the concrete needs of agrifood businesses, bringing real use cases face to face with those who work in agritech innovation every day.
